Of course, if you have The Cat in the Hat then that's a different story. After all, the Cat has got tricks up his sleeve that will keep you on your toes while you have the time of your life. As he searches the house for his lost, moss-covered, three-handled, family gredunza, Thing One and Thing Two wreak havoc in every room. It's so much fun it's easy to forget about the massive mess that you're creating in mom's neatly tidied house - until she walks up the steps! Not to worry: the Cat's got the solution for that and it's in his hat... From the Publisher Illus. in color. The Cat in the Hat came to play one rainy, nothing-to-do afternoon. His hilarious antics are "recommended for all libraries."--(starred) School Library Journal. Store Review Erica from Chapters # 788, Langley, BC Instead of reviewing this modern classic, I want to give you a new reason to read it. In the early 1950s, the Connecticut school board decided that a major impediment to learning was that the Dick and Jane texts were dull. According to the biography Dr. Seuss and Mr. Geisel, a publisher read the report and contacted Dr. Seuss to create a new reading book, using the 220 words he provided. Why 220? Because people felt that was the maximum that kids could absorb. Seuss had the title within moments, but it took him nine months to write the rest. Read this book again for the first time! About the Author Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904. After attending Dartmouth College and Oxford University, he began a career in advertising. His advertising cartoons, featuring Quick, Henry, the Flit!, appeared in several leading American magazines.Dr. Seuss’s first children’s book, And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, hit the market in 1937, and the world of children’s literature was changed forever! In 1957, Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat became the prototype for one of Random House’s best- selling series, Beginner Books. This popular series combined engaging stories with outrageous illustrations and playful sounds to teach basic reading skills. Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents. In the process, he helped kids learn to read. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 and three Academy Awards, Seuss was the author and illustrator of 44 children’s books, some of which have been made into audiocassettes, animated television specials, and videos for children of all ages. Even after his death in 1991, Dr. Seuss continues to be the best-selling author of children’s books in the world. Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 3 1. Must read book! The Seattle Times, August 03, 2002: Toronto - Indigo Books & Music and a group representing Canada's independent booksellers said they will challenge in court a government decision letting Amazon.com set up a Canadian Web site. Indigo, Canada's largest book chain, and the Canadian Booksellers Association said Amazon.com has violated rules that bar non-Canadians from controlling bookstores. Seattle-based Amazon.com is paying Assured Logistics, a unit of government-owned Canada Post, to run a Toronto-area warehouse and deliver books, music and movies ordered through the month-old Canadian site, Amazon.ca. That way, Amazon doesn't operate a bookstore in Canada. "The Heritage Department has confirmed Amazon.ca is operating in accordance with Canadian laws," said company spokeswoman Kristin Schaefer.
