A Chapters Indigo Online Account. Why do I need an online account? Do I need a credit card to set up an online account? How do I set up an online account? What if I forgot my password for my existing online account? Other frequently asked questions What is an Indigo Gift Card? Can I check my Indigo Gift Card balance online? If my order is cancelled or returned, does the refunded amount return to my online account balance or my Indigo Gift Card? Can Indigo Gift Cards, Electronic Gift Certificates and Online coupons be used toward the purchase of the same order? Do I need a credit card when making a purchase with my Indigo Gift Card? Can I use the Indigo Gift Card I received from a corporate promotion or as part of a corporate gift program online? What is the difference between Indigo Gift Cards and Electronic Gift Certificates? Can I use my Indigo Gift Card at an in-store "Search Shop" kiosk? Where do I get an Indigo Gift Card? Indigo Gift Cards can be purchased at any Indigo, Chapters or Coles across Canada and at World's Biggest Bookstore in Toronto. Indigo Gift Cards are available in denominations of $10, $25 and $50 dollars or as a Flex Card. A Flex Card can be charged with any amount from $2.00 to $200 and is reloadable. Indigo Gift Cards are not sold online. Where do I find my Indigo Gift Card number? Your Indigo Gift Card number can be found on the reverse of your Indigo Gift Card, directly under the barcode. When prompted to enter your Indigo Gift Card number online, enter all the digits below the barcode without any spaces or dashes. What do I do if I've lost my Indigo Gift Card? The Indigo Gift Card is equivalent to cash and cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. Protect your Indigo Gift Card like cash at all times. What is a PIN number? A PIN (personal identification number) is the number assigned as a unique identifier for each Gift Card sold. The PIN number is required to make online purchases as an additional security measure to protect our customers from potential misuse of their Indigo Gift Card. Where do I find my PIN number? Your PIN number can be found: i) On your original Indigo Gift Card receipt. If you purchased your Indigo Gift Card prior to February 17th 2003, your PIN number is referred to as a Transaction ID on the receipt. If you purchased your card on or after February 17th 2003, your PIN number is referred to as PIN on your original receipt (Note: there will also be a Transaction ID - make sure to use the PIN number NOT the Transaction ID number). ii) Gift Card Holder. Your Indigo Gift Card will have been presented in an Indigo Gift Card Holder. The PIN number will have been written on the inside center panel of the Gift Card Holder in the space next to "Your PIN number for online use." What if I have lost or never received a PIN number? For your own security, we are unable to look up or regenerate PIN numbers. For in-store use, a PIN number is not required, so your Indigo Gift Card is still valid for in-store purchases. If you want to use your Indigo Gift Card online, you will need to get a new PIN. To get a new PIN, simply visit your nearest Chapters, Indigo or Coles store location with your Indigo Gift Card in hand. Present the card to a cashier and request a balance transfer from your Indigo Gift Card to a new Gift Card to obtain a new PIN for use online. When the cashier issues you a new Gift Card, you will also be issued a new PIN to correspond with your new card. Can I change my PIN number? Once a PIN number is assigned to an Indigo Gift Card, it cannot be modified. Each Gift Card is issued a unique PIN for the life of the card that cannot be changed. Why do I need an online account? An online account is required to use your Indigo Gift Card online so that you can transfer funds from your Indigo Gift Card to your Chapters Indigo Online account balance. Indigo Gift Cards, like Electronic Gift Certificates, must be deposited into a Chapters Indigo Online account before they can be used toward online purchases. Unlike Electronic Gift Certificates, you determine how much of your Indigo Gift Card you would like to transfer to your Chapters Indigo Online account balance (i.e. if you have a $50 Gift Card, you can choose to transfer $25 dollars to your Online account balance and use the remaining $25 in any of our stores.) Please note: balance transfers are one-way operations. Once you have transferred funds into your online account balance, you cannot transfer them back to your Indigo Gift Card. The Seattle Times, August 03, 2002: Toronto - Indigo Books & Music and a group representing Canada's independent booksellers said they will challenge in court a government decision letting Amazon.com set up a Canadian Web site. Indigo, Canada's largest book chain, and the Canadian Booksellers Association said Amazon.com has violated rules that bar non-Canadians from controlling bookstores. Seattle-based Amazon.com is paying Assured Logistics, a unit of government-owned Canada Post, to run a Toronto-area warehouse and deliver books, music and movies ordered through the month-old Canadian site, Amazon.ca. That way, Amazon doesn't operate a bookstore in Canada. "The Heritage Department has confirmed Amazon.ca is operating in accordance with Canadian laws," said company spokeswoman Kristin Schaefer.
