Don't. For these unfortunate siblings school turns out to be another miserable episode in their unlucky lives. In fact, within the chapters of The Austere Academy , the children will face strict punishments, dripping fungus, comprehensive exams, a girl named Carmelita Spats, smelly sneakers, and the metric system. The fifth book in the A Series of Unfortunate Events series, which tells the wretched adventures of the charming Baudelaires at boarding school, is an exquisitely dark comedy, both literary and irreverent, hilarious and deftly crafted. The multitalented Lemony Snicket spins an uproariously unhappy tale about three captivating and resilient orphans facing yet another bout of outrageous misfortune. From the Publisher Dear Reader, If you are looking for a story about cheerful youngsters spending a jolly time at boarding school, look elsewhere. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire arc intelligent and resourceful children, and you might expect that they would do very well at school. Don’t. For the Baudelaires, school turns out to be another miserable episode in their unlucky lives. Truth be told, within the chapters that make up this dreadful story, the children will face snapping crabs, strict punishments, dripping fungus, comprehensive exams, violin recitals, S.O.R.E., and the metric system. It is my solemn duty to stay up all night researching and writing the history of these three hapless youngsters, but you may be more comfortable getting a good night’s sleep. Excitment For You Reviewer: Crystal from Chippawa, NiagraFalls,Ontairio Date: 5/21/2001 6:46:49 PM This book was amazing! I wanted to read an exciting series and boy i found the right one. Violet, Sunny and Klaus's life seem like the perfect setting for this series. The excitment raises whenever Count Olaf joins the story. I never let my eyes leave the page! It was that exciting. Every book in this series was. Take my advice if you want a new and exciting series read this one. Within the pages of this book you read about these three orphans doing S.O.R.E. and exams. If there is one thing this book has its excitment. 2. simply the best Reviewer: Alex Bergquist from Edmonton, alberta (sammythecrackhead@hotmail.com) Date: 4/28/2001 5:17:22 PM This book is awesome. TOTALLY AWESOME Reviewer: Joseph Sanfilippo from Oakville Ontario (mecool@home.com) Date: 4/15/2001 8:39:43 PM I've read all the series by Mr. Snicket up to book five and let me say that I am very impressed. The books have gotten better ever since book one. I can't wait until I read the sixth one. KEEP WRITING, MR. SNICKET! 5. The Austere Academy Reviewer: Emily Bashford from Winnipeg Manitoba Date: 3/12/2001 7:47:05 PM Boy!Was this book excellent!I could never put my eyes on anything but it. I like how the author puts lots of effort in to this book, because it turnd out great. I thought that S.O.R.E (in the 7th chapter) was just plane sore.S.O.R.E stands for Special Orphan Running Exercises. The orphans had to put a big circle of luminous paint on the front lawn in the dark.Soon as they were done they had to run as many laps as they could until coach Genghis said "stop". And because they were orphans they had to live in the orphans shack. It was treacherous! They had to put up with face snapping crabs and dripping fungus. But Violet decided to put metal on the bottom of there shoes so it can scare the crabs away. The Vice Principal Nero always mimmicks the children. So if you were to say"I flunked on my metric exam". He would say right back to you "I flunked on my metric exam". So if you are up for a exciting novel tune into "The Austere Academy" by Lemony Snicket. Read all of the reviews... Amazon Canada - Always the best prices!

The Seattle Times, August 03, 2002: Toronto - Indigo Books & Music and a group representing Canada's independent booksellers said they will challenge in court a government decision letting Amazon.com set up a Canadian Web site. Indigo, Canada's largest book chain, and the Canadian Booksellers Association said Amazon.com has violated rules that bar non-Canadians from controlling bookstores. Seattle-based Amazon.com is paying Assured Logistics, a unit of government-owned Canada Post, to run a Toronto-area warehouse and deliver books, music and movies ordered through the month-old Canadian site, Amazon.ca. That way, Amazon doesn't operate a bookstore in Canada. "The Heritage Department has confirmed Amazon.ca is operating in accordance with Canadian laws," said company spokeswoman Kristin Schaefer.
